English Language Challenges

English is a language that we all should speak, is a universal language and learning it opens a million of doors to many opportunities in life specially for your future job.

I have been learning english since I was born. My parents used to speak to me in english when I was a little girl and that helped me a lot.
At school I always had english native speakers which helped me so much with my listening, vocabulary and my speaking that I achieved my FCE Cambridge certificate in 2015.

Now I´m in english 4 at university and it has been a really different experience. The using of blogs has been a challenge for me because I am not used to write in english specially blogs, which is not that easy because you have to order all your ideas and try to explain yourself as good as you can so people can understand what you are writing.

I think my english is really good and I practice it a lot with some friends I have from different countries and with some family members that are from the United States.
Also, I am constantly watching movies and series like pretty little liars in english which I understand almost everything.
I think my writing is the worst area of my english but these semester I have practiced a lot because of the blogs we have to write about different topics so I think I have improved a lot.

I think english is already a part of my life and I want to keep learning it for the rest of my life because we never stop learning new things.

Changes to your study programme

This year has been a whole experience because I change from school to university which it turned out to be a whole change in every aspect of my life.

I´m studying food engineering in the University of Chile, and until now i´m very happy with my decision because I have subjects that I really like but of course we always want to change things in any situation that we are and in this case I have a lot of things that I would change.

My career lasts 6 years, which in my opinion is a lot of time. The 2 first years are only leveling of the subjects from school but of course a little bit harder, we have Chemistry, Math, Physics, Laboratories, English, Biology and introduction to food engineering. For me this subjects are among the career but it should be more focused in our area than on leveling.

My Faculty is not that big, which I think is ok but there are some buildings that we should have but we don´t. For example a casino, we don´t have our own casino to have lunch or breakfast, we have to use one from another faculty which I think is not correct. Also, our library is so small for all the students, there are not enough tables so we don´t have a normal space to study.

According to the classes, personally my attention lasts only 40 minutes, and our classes lasts one and a half hour so you can imagine how hard is for me to stay awake the whole class. I believe that with practice and an interactive class, students should learn much better than sitting in a chair listening to a teacher for such a long time.
Nowadays we have so many technology which is very useful for a lesson and teachers don't take advantage of it, for example the using of computers, watching a video, or just playing games during the class are methods that can keep the students focused on what is important.

Learning should be fun so it can really motivate teenagers to keep studying and not to lose control with so many stress.
